The Department celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the Post Graduate Programme in 2006. The Department also has a legacy of holding invited lectures and conducting national seminars and workshops regularly. The Department has a wonderful galaxy of alumni as well. Right from its inception, it has had a spectacular track record of eminent faculty members who were the torch bearers of economic studies in Kerala. Undergraduate course in Economics was started in 1936 and Post Graduate programme in 1957. Ever since the college was founded in 1922 as the one offering intermediate course in Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Economics was in existence.
